Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I apply for housing?
  • For RAD Project Based Voucher (Formerly Public Housing) you can either:
    1. Download an application from our home page
    2. Come into our office between 9am-4pm Monday-Friday to pick up an application
    3. Call our main number and request that an application be mailed to you
For Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher, our waiting list is closed and applications will not be available until the list re-opens.
  • Do you have emergency housing?
  • The Lakewood Housing Authority (LHA) frequently receives requests for emergency housing. Often people looking for emergency housing are homeless, about to be homeless or living in severely substandard housing. Unfortunately, the LHA does not provide emergency housing. If someone needs immediate relief from their current housing situation, the LHA is generally not your first stop. Once a family or individual completes an application for housing, and is determined eligible, the individual or family will be placed on our waiting list. Depending on the size apartment the individual/family needs, the wait can be anywhere from six months to several years. Anyone that is in need of Emergency housing should first contact the organizations listed here. Additional housing resources are listed on our Links tab.
  • What are the normal hours of operation?
  • The LHA office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30am until 4:00pm, with the exception of recognized holidays. The office opens to the public at 9:00am and is closed from 12:00pm-12:30pm for lunch.
  • What are the Income Eligibility Requirements for admission?
